Canada Remains Without a National Strategy on Suicide Prevention

CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwire – Sept. 15, 2010) – Another year passes and still Canada has no National Suicide Prevention Strategy in Canada. Suicide is recognized as a public health tragedy worldwide, with over 1million deaths each year. In Canada, suicide is one of the top 10 leading causes of death, accounting for over 4000 deaths annually, year after year after year. Suicide is 2nd leading cause of death among individuals’ ages 15-34 years, second only to accidents/unintentional injuries.
