How to choose the best sunscreen

Sunnybrook dermatologist Dr. Perla Lansang offers tips for choosing the best sunscreen and how to apply it:

  • Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen. This will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays.
  • Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
  • You need to use about one shotglass worth of sunscreen for your entire body.
  • Use sunscreen on a daily basis rather than an as needed basis. Wear it all year.
  • Wear sun protective clothing.
  • Avoid peak UV hours.
