For all that the NICU can be a difficult place to be in over the holidays, it can also be wonderful. Over the last week, we’ve had so many people bring in gifts, make donations, drop off treats, and send us cards, and we are grateful to all of you! We just thought we should take a moment and share with you some of the special events that have happened this week.
Our breastfeeding resource nurse, Luisa, wanted the last session of her “Milk and Cookies” education group to be something special, so she asked staff members to bring in cookies that we could give out to parents. Here’s what she got …
(My apologies for the blurry picture; my hands were shaking at the thought of all those cookies.) Now, this doesn’t include the 300+ cookies that were behind me. To all the staff members who made these delicious treats … thank you!
We also had a visit from Santa himself, accompanied by his elves and his own personal tree! Thanks to Andrea and the lovely people at the Toronto Toy Tea, we had gifts to give out to all the babies and siblings, and thanks to Nick and Sandy from Oh Baby magazine, we had treats to hand out to the parents as well.
But we must take a moment to say a special, heartfelt thank you to Santa himself, who made it such a special day for all of us. Here’s Santa with one happy family …
And here is Santa with a very sweet baby.
Most of the babies and bigger kids loved Santa …
Though a couple needed some time to warm up to him.
Santa spent time with every family who requested a visit …
And the elves made sure everyone was picture perfect.
We’ll look forward to seeing Santa, the tree and the elves again next year. To all of them, and to all of our families, thank you for making merry with us!
Thanks to Doug Nicholson for the wonderful photos, and to our families for sharing the photos with us!
