Adding some plants to your workspace can not only improve the aesthetic, but the health of your office environment. Sunnybrook’s Environmental Services expert, Rohan Harrison, offers some reasons to go green.
Reason #1: While modern buildings are sealed for energy efficiency, this can also trap more harmful pollutants in the air. The presence of live plants can reduce symptoms like headaches, sore throat, burning eyes, fatigue and difficultly concentrating by up to 40% by removing harmful pollutants from indoor air.
Reason #2: Because plants reduce carbon dioxide, they may actually help reduce drowsiness.
Reason #3: Plants help control humidity and help lower heating and cooling costs.
Reason #4: Think of some plants as instant treatment! For example, the aloe plant can applied to the skin to offer comfort and relief.
Reason #5: There is strong evidence that adding elements of nature to your environment decreases anxiety, anger and other negative emotions.
Reason #6: In addition to increasing positive emotions, like feelings of calm, plants can also offer pleasant distractions that can help block worrisome or stressful thoughts.
