I have been dreaming about the end of winter since early February. Enough polar vortex already!! The first itch and sniffle I normally greet begrudgingly in April – sure signs that allergy season is kicking in – will truly and honestly make me happy this year. Any hint of spring will be glorious.
But our historic winter did get me wondering how our brutal winter will impact the upcoming allergy season. Better or worse this year? Longer or shorter? I met with Dr. Karen Binkley, an allergy specialist, to get her best prediction. Watch my video to see what she expects will be in store.
The important message is having your treatment in place a few weeks in advance of the allergy season starting, and not waiting for symptoms to become full blown. In addition to paying attention to pollen forecasts, she says there are clues you can watch for right outside your front door.
One of Dr. Binkley’s colleagues has developed an interesting online lecture about allergies you might want to check out. Dr. Jason Lee, a specialist in Clinical Immunology and Allergy, has some very cool tips to find relief that might surprise you (hint: wrap-around sunglasses might be a worthwhile investment!).
