Since early November, I’ve been stuffing my kids’ heads into warm fleece hats before they run out the door. In honor of all mothers that have come before me, I warn to keep them on unless they want to get sick. Turns out my threat was a tad misinformed. You can’t actually get the flu from the cold weather. And despite being heralded by many as a magical flu fighter, chicken soup is just a meal.
When I met with Sunnybrook’s chief of microbiology Dr. Andrew Simor, he was like a man at bat: one by one, knocking down the long list of myths that often accompany the flu.
You can’t get the flu from the flu shot, says Dr. Simor. Watch the video to learn why. |
One of the biggest misconceptions is that the flu shot can make you sick. Knowing the vaccine is composed of only killed virus, that’s impossible. But Dr. Simor explained why some people may get the flu after getting the shot. He also addressed which vitamins and supplements (if any) are beneficial. And are you actually contagious before you develop symptoms of the flu? Click on my video to learn more.
After putting this story together, I’ll be doing a few things differently. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this as well!
